The aebigroup team investigated that the roofing material above the glass skylight was directly laid on the glass surface without underlayment during the destructive testing. This will cause permanent damage to the glass during the demolition of the existing roofing. If we remove this layer, there is no substrate structure to attach the new roofing layer. The new design solution is to Install a Z clip at the existing metal skylight framing and install insulation below the plywood panel (See attached sketch for detail). All existing ACM-contained roofs at the gutter area will be removed completely and the existing skylight portion of the roof will be permanently encapsulated by the new SBS roof membrane. The proposed solution will meet the current GSA P100, IECC, and IBC codes as well as provide on-going maintenance solutions since the new roof above z-clip framing can be easily removed and new roofing can be installed in the future.
